False Indigo: PROTO Gallery
PROTO Gallery is pleased to announce FALSE INDIGO, its first solo exhibition of new work by artist Rob Ventura, opening June 3rd with a reception from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at 66 Willow Ave., Hoboken, NJ. The exhibition will close July 29th, 2017. The exhibition will coincide with SOFT REBOOT, a large-scale group exhibition curated by the artist in the gallery’s auxiliary space on the second floor of the R. Neumann and Co. leather factory in Hoboken.
FALSE INDIGO presents a selection of recent paintings depicting abstracted representations of poisonous flowers. Symbolically charged, these floral arrangements evoke non-binary interpretations of pleasure and pain, seduction and destruction, organic matter and artificial concoction, love and narcissistic preoccupation, and the elation of beauty and existential nihilism.
The show’s title is derived from the Baptisia Australis plant, a North American flower commonly referred to as False Indigo, alluding to the artist’s use of transparent paint applications to create deceptive color composites within a chromatic spectrum.
Rob Ventura was born and raised in Berkeley Heights, NJ, and currently lives and works in Hoboken, NJ.
